NES (Nintendo Entertainment System)

The Nintendo Entertainment System had bland, repetitive games, was produced by a foreign manufacturer, had to compete against gaming giant Atari, and included a pad rather than a joystick. One would expect that combination to mean certain death, yet it sold extremely well. Why? Timing. They entered the market at a point when there was virtually no competition.
